ACTION ALERT! Two Days Left: Contact Your Representatives in Their Home Districts This Week!
Below is a link to the NCIL alert about an amendment coming to the House Floor for a vote on Tuesday, May 8th that was passed by the House Appropriations Committee as a rider to the FY 2013 Commerce, Justice, Science appropriations bill.
The amendment would prohibit the Department of Justice from enforcing regulations on access for people with disabilities to swimming pools. It would override the duly authorized regulations regarding accessible swimming pools notwithstanding years of notice and public participation and that pool owners can opt out if there is a financial hardship.
Worse yet, legislation to deprive the Justice Department of authority to enforce its own regulations would set a dangerous precedent that could lead to piecemeal dismantling of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
LET’S TRY TO STOP IT FROM PASSING. PLEASE CONTACT YOU REPRESENTATIVES TO SAY DON’T PASS THIS AMENDMENT to the Commerce, Justice, Science appropriations bill and please VOTE AGAINST similar bills H.R. 4200 and H.R. 4256.
You may contact your Representatives via:
* Their local offices
* By calling the US Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121
* By email http://www.house.gov/ Click on Find your Representative (upper right corner of screen) and follow the link to his or her website.
Thanks for whatever you can do and for spreading the word .
