Dixie Horse Races

My husband and I are part of the Lions Club, and have been members for 3 or more years.  We meet monthly, and do a lot of volunteering.  This last weekend we volunteered at the Dixie Horse Races at the Hurricane Fair Grounds, and will be back in 2 weeks for more racing.  I helped sell hot dogs, hamburgers, and drinks. It was a busy night.  The stands were full, and weather was nice.  I like helping and being part of the community.

My dad was a cowboy, and past away last year.  Being around all these cowboys reminds me of my dad, and growing up.  I look forward to more horse races, and rodeos.

Nominate Someone for a Prestigous Award: Ila Marie Goodey Award

Via an email from Amanda Marin and copied below:

Hello Everyone,
The Division of Services for People with Disabilities appreciates all the great work Providers and Support Coordinators do to support individuals with disabilities. The Division would like to recognize those Providers/Support Coordinators that exemplify the highest quality of services and supports for our individuals served. Those that respect individuality, promote independence, and honor self-determination. In recognition of this dedication to services, the Ila Marie Goodey award honors those efforts.

Dr. Ila Marie Goodey was a member of our board who passed away in 1999. Ila Marie lived her life with a disability due to contracting Polio as a child. She campaigned for reform of federal, state, and agency regulations for individuals receiving publicly funded services and practiced and promoted self-determination long before it was adopted as a national movement. The Division honors her memory by recognizing the Provider(s) that have shown to provide a higher standard of service delivery and promote the philosophy of self-determination.

Please see the attached form to submit your nominations for this prestigious award. Nominations need to be submitted by Friday, April 18, 2014. The awards will be presented at the upcoming Provider Conference on June 26th.

Thank you,

Amanda Marin
