Cherissa’s Bio:
My interest in disability advocacy is a result of my own experience with disability. My disability – visual impairment (full right hemianopia) – is due to an acquired brain injury. Because of my brain injury, I have come to understand on a personal level some of the social, economic, and accessibility challenges that individuals’ with disabilities face. I hope to use my experience to help others understand the disability experience, particularly the experience of individuals with brain injuries. Prior to my brain injury, I was working as a human resource professional and, as a result, I am particularly interested in improving employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities. I am currently a student in the Disability Disciplines doctoral program at Utah State University and was a 2011-2012 URLEND (www.urlend.org) trainee. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management, both from Utah State University. My husband Nathan and I have two daughters and live in Providence. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, cooking, and spending time with my family.

This is Storee Powell from the Utah Assistive Technology Program at the CPD. I would like to interview you for a story on people with disabilities as a voting bloc. I’m not in tomorrow, but could we do it Monday? Feel free to call me!
thanks!
