Law Enforcement and Autism: A Crucial Conversation

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office and Families of Autism and Asperger’s Standing Together (F.A.A.S.T.) are holding a free training program aimed to equip first responders and parents with needed information and skills to assist those on the Autism Spectrum in times of emergency or crisis. The program is being held on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the Weber County Sheriff’s Office: 721 West 12th Street. Lt. Mark Lowther from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office and James Vaughan, father of a child with autism and co-founder of F.A.A.S.T. will lead the training.
First responders will meet from 9:00am – 11:00am; the parent session will follow from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.

CDC Releases Report on Autism Rates

Division of Services for People with Disabilities and Utah State Office of Rehabilitation are sponsoring a panel discussion on Disability Etiquette on March 27, 2012 from 9:00am – 11:00am.
Come learn about all types of disabilities. Learn what is appropriate and what is not appropriate to say and do. A panel of experience people with disabilities will share their stories and assist you in understanding how to interact comfortably with people who have disabilities.

“Eleanor’s Secret” Screening at Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center

The Tumbleweeds Film Festival for Families Affected by Autism is being held this weekend. The Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center is hosting a screening of “Eleanor’s Secret”, an animated film in which a boy’s ability to read not only sets his imagination free but also saves the day.
